About Me

I'm a West Coaster by heart. I was born on the beautiful Central Coast of California in San Luis Obispo. Over the years before I turned 18, I lived in Washington, Idaho, Alaska, Portland Oregon, and several places in the East Bay and Central Valley of California. I joined the Navy in 1982 and was based in Vallejo and San Diego on a submarine.  It was during that time, in 1984 that I visited Bend for the first time, road tripping in my buddy's VW Vanagon for a long weekend of skiiing and hanging out in the small town it was at that time. That trip left an imprint on me and over the years a thought about the possibility of moving to Bend many times.

After the Navy, I moved to Santa Barbara to go to school for a couple years, but my love of skiing and cycling called me to the mountains, and in 1987 I packed everything I owned into a small pickup truck and drove to Vail, Colorado where I managed restaurants for Vail Mountain and opened the door to living the ultimate outdoor life!  It was in Vail that I skied hard and got seriously into cycling by racing and exploring the nearby mountains. I also entered my next career in the Bicycle and Outdoor Industries as a sales rep and leaped at the chance to travel the Rockies and Southwest with my work over the next 10 years. From there, I worked as Sales and Marketing professional with several cycling companies. I moved to Boulder Colorado in 1996 and met my amazing and talented wife Kris there. We moved to nearby Nederland shortly after that and lived high in the high mountains at almost 9,000 feet just west of Boulder. In 2004 we moved to Palisade Colorado where I took a position with a Swiss cycling company which manufactured spokes and other bicycle components. During this time, I was lucky to travel extensively to Europe, Asia, South America and Canada. Palisade is located at the base of the Grand Mesa where skiing, hiking and riding was also fairly accessible. We renovated an old farmhouse and lived surrounded by peach orchards and planted a small 2 acre vineyard of Malbec.

In 2010, we moved back to the Bay Area and the Oakland hills. While we loved Oakland's diversity, history and amazing views, we felt drawn back to the mountains. Our short list included Bend, Portland and Eugene among other places, and in the summer of 2014 we took a trip to Oregon to explore the area. We found that Bend offered everything we wanted in mountain town and we made it our home in the Fall of 2014! Come check out Bend for yourself - I'm sure you'll fall in love with it as we did!
